We lunched at Santa Ana at one of the countless sidewalk cafes found in every square and along every street. Why can’t we have more street side cafes in Vancouver? People just walk around the chairs and tables here, so what if you have to narrow down to single file? We chose the Cerveceria Santa Ana cafe and had caprice salad and Jamon with slices of sheep’s milk, which very stiff and dry. The stripes of ham were cured in paprika and had a mild overtone of pepper. Thicker than prosuito and far less salty. Surprisingly, the tomatoes were like mush and flavorless, much like our bland, hothouse tomatoes. Cheap balsamic vinegar. Lesson learned – don’t eat in the high tourist area.
